Working Towards Ending Deforestation
Tree Niches is a not-for-profit organization working towards ending deforestation through the establishment and restoration of tree niches in degraded forests and landscapes.
Our Impact So Far
0+
Including 1.2 million indigenous trees and 648,000 mangroves, grown with individuals, corporates, the government, local and international partners and forest-adjacent communities across Kenya.
About Tree Niches
We work in collaboration with individuals, local and international partners, corporates, the government and local communities to grow trees in schools, cities, farmlands and degraded forests — promoting healthy ecosystems, rich biodiversity, offsetting carbon dioxide emissions and improving local economies.
A future where healthy tree niches are sustainably managed by the people.
Establish tree niches in schools, cities, farmlands and reforest degraded natural forests and landscapes.
What We Do
From degraded forest blocks to school compounds and farmland, each programme puts the right trees in the right place — and returns to make sure they survive.

We establish and restore tree niches in degraded natural forests and landscapes so ecosystems can recover, hold water and store carbon again.

We work with landowners to grow agroforestry trees through agreed farm models that pay back in soil, food and income.

We believe the best approach to conserving healthy forests is early education and the practice of tree planting in schools.

Local communities are fundamental to reforesting degraded natural forests — so we grow trees while growing livelihoods.
Why It Matters
Every tree niche we establish works on four fronts at once.
Restoring tree cover so forests, water catchments and landscapes function again.
Growing indigenous species that bring back habitat for wildlife and pollinators.
Every niche of trees established captures carbon and builds climate resilience.
Trees on farms and near forests create food, agro-commodities and income.
Our Projects

Ngong Hills Forest, Kajiado County, Kenya
Volunteers, partners and community members plant indigenous seedlings in degraded sections of Ngong Hills Forest, then return to water and monitor them so the young trees survive their first seasons.

Ngong Hills Forest, Kenya
Before planting begins, our team profiles the site — assessing degradation, soils and existing vegetation — so that the right species are matched to the right part of the landscape.

Ngong Hills, Kenya
A hike that ends in restoration. Participants walk the hills, learn how the landscape has changed, and plant trees together — turning a day outdoors into lasting tree cover.
